About
Verity says – “Although my main salon, Belle Hair Boutique, welcomes anyone through the doors, I started to notice what a struggle it is for some people being in the busy salon environment. It can be a sensory overload of voices, movement, music, hairdryers and bright colours! I really noticed how stressful it could be for individuals and not only children, but also their parents. I would hear endless apologies from parents if their child wasn’t vibing with the situation and feel helpless in making them feel it was OK. So I started to think of ways we could make their visits more comfortable.
Whilst thinking about my new venture, I realised it wasn’t only neurodiverse people that may have had negative experiences, or fear of going into a high street salon. If you know me, you will know I am a heavily tattooed ‘goth girl’. I recall when I was younger feeling judgement when expressing my wishes for my own hair, and feeling out of my comfort zone in certain settings.
I love all aspects of hair dressing, but after 21 years of hair dressing I want to start really driving my own passion which is creating vivid and alternative hair styles and colours. Time in The Coven on these days will be very chilled and accompanied by metal/alternative music!
Another area I am passionate about is helping transitioning people to find their new look by exploring new hairstyles together. Although absolutely welcome in Belle Hair, The Coven will provide a more intimate setting to enable you to speak completely freely if you feel this is what you need.
I have recently completed my level 2 and 3 in Counselling skills, and a level 2 Understanding Autism course. This knowledge and education has really heightened my empathy towards others and made me want to provide this special setting.”

neurodiverse & anxious people
The Coven is an inclusive space dedicated primarily to neurodiverse children and young adults, supporting the individual and their parents in what can sometimes be a daunting experience.
Our space is also open to anybody, regardless of age and gender, who finds being in the usual busier salon environment uncomfortable.
We have set the salon up to be a private, calmer, quieter environment on our dedicated sensory days, with options for low lighting and low/no music. The salon will be exclusively yours during your appointment, unless stated otherwise, for the duration of your time slot. There is no judgement and rushing.
We give the option to come and meet us prior to the hair cut with a 15 minute appointment to discuss your needs, and how we can best set up the salon to suit. We provide social stories in preparation for visiting. Please remember – it is OK to communicate your needs.
